Serendubity Newsletter - Summer 2017
Greetings to one and all! First and foremost, we would like to thank everyone who came to our event at Project 8 / Greenhouse on May 6th, it was such a great feeling to see so many familiar (and smiling) faces together in one place, especially after nearly a year since our last event! And although it seems to have been pretty quiet in the Serendubity universe as of late, there have been a number of new projects recently called into existence. Below you can read about just a few of them! But first, we would like to address a question you are certainly all asking yourselves.
Will there be a SERENDUBITY FESTIVAL in 2017?
As much as we would like to say yes, we regret to inform you that we won't be organizing a Serendubity Festival this year. We hope to find a perfect location one day where we can combine all of our efforts once more to bring you another unforgettable 3 days of dub and bass in the sun! Momentarily we have to leave our former base of operations in Finowfurt - which played host to our last festival in 2015 - and will once again be engaged in finding a new place we can call home.
If you have any ideas about a potential location - preferably within a 1-2 hour radius of Berlin, where it might be possible to re-create an amazing festival vibe and lots of heavy bass - we would be very thankful for any ideas!
Nonetheless, we are looking forward to this summer and a number of great events happening throughout Germany! In just a couple of weeks we will be taking part in a brand-new, inner-city festival dedicated to sound system culture and bass music in Berlin, at a unique location which some of you may remember from our Sommerdubwende last June!
For this special occasion, we've put together a nice selection of artists from the Serendubity crew; Dubfish, Catitah Steppah, I-Tal P and the Acid Dub Foundation! We will also be joined by two of southern Germany's foremost authorities in live dubbing: Umberto Echo & Jah Schulz - as well as an extra-special guest out of the UK, son of the mighty Jah Shaka, for the very first time in Berlin: Young Warrior!
As usual we will be joined by a score of serendipitous guest performers, singers and players of instruments, with live visuals by Flimmerkiste!
Aside from the regular madness associated with Serendubity, the second floor will be hosted by Impulse Berlin, and the third floor by Peace Time Sound! On Saturday, our friends from Dub der guten Hoffnung will be hosting an open air in the garden from 2-10pm, with the entire crew reuniting for the first time in quite a few years! On Saturday night, Higher Ground Recordings - a brand-new label born out of the Serendubity universe - will be celebrating their debut vinyl release, and our long time friends from the Lion's Den will be teaming up with the mighty Moonshine Recordings out of Poland to keep you stepping until the sun comes up!
Introducing: THE LION'S DEN SOUND SYSTEM
Following an unforgettable launch party in April and an even heavier second session with Digitron & Dub Engine in May, the brand-new Lion's Den Sound System continues to shake the very foundation of the city in June, powering the main floor at Mensch Meier from June 9th-11th!
Big respect to the Lion's Den, who has been a fundamental part of the Serendubity movement from the beginning, and continues to be a force to be reckoned with in and out of Berlin - even more so now that they have a proper tower of speakers!
HIGHER GROUND RECORDINGS - A new label is born!
Also celebrating their debut release at Mensch Meier in June is a brand-new label: Higher Ground Recordings! Called into life by our resident junglist extraordinaire Jimi Handtrix, the debut release combines elements of modern jungle music, pressed to a high-quality, limited edition 12" vinyl with full color artwork by the talented Eric Tiedt (whose work you may recognize from some of our previous parties!). Keep vinyl culture alive!
SERENDUBITY ARTISTS & BOOKING
A large part of our musical mission has always been to promote up and coming local talent, and we are very happy to see a number of artists and individuals who we met through their involvement in various Serendubity events, gaining more and more exposure as of late!
From relative newcomers like Meta & Joe Redubbed, to long-time activists of the Berliner sound system scene such as Benjammin & Dubfish, or residents O-Ton & Freytakt, who with their involvement in projects such Dub der guten Hoffnung (as well as having been part of the Serendubity crew since the first festival in 2013!), have been etching out a unique niche of eclectic, dub-infused, psychedelic bass music, most recently with their joint venture Passive Studio!

We hope you all have an amazing summer where ever you find yourselves in this crazy world.. Keep the fire burning!
Love & Respect,
Your Serendubity Crew
